Nepal Flooding Update – 08/31/26
Summary:
• Targeting Thursday 9/3 for initial food relief drive for 100 families
• Need to raise minimum of $2500 by 9/2 to boost the local Nepali donations
• Operation-Impact has a goal of $15,000 to feed 200 families and provide shelter tents to 100 families
Almost one week after the Aug 26 flash flood, the current Nepali government report on the losses are now counting 955 dead, over 4,471 missing, and rising. There is a severe rising health crisis with food and clean water in short supply; aid workers are unable to able deal quickly enough with the bodies of those who have perished and decomposition contamination is a mounting issue . The floods have washed away bridges and the rainy season has eroded many of the mountain roads connecting the eastern half of Nepal to the western side, hampering relief efforts and supplies.
We are providing an option for a $45 Food Package Donation (food for a family for 1 month) and a $60 Tent Package Donation (quality protection from rain, heat, and elements for a family). We urgently need $2500 by Wednesday, but we hoping (and praying) for $15,000 so we can feed 200 families for a month and shelter 100 families until they can get their footing to rebuild their lives.
Our contacts in Nepal, Gobinda and Sushila, are in touch with locals in the affected flood areas and are planning the initial relief drive to address the most crucial needs in the area. The first team is trying to arrange transport to arrive Thursday, 9/3/26, with supplies to feed at least 100 families with the essentials for 1 month. The cost for this initial food drive is $4500. Local Nepali churches and individuals have already given over $1100 to help their own. Operation-Impact is hoping to boost their funds to cover the rest of this project. We have already raised over $600 to help meet the initial goal, but we need at least $2500 by Wednesday, 9/2/26 to be able to make this happen by Thursday.
On top of the devastation of the flood, this is the rainy season and people have no shelter from the daily torrential rains. Gobinda is also asking for our help in providing tents for displaced families.
